We were again made most welcome by the hostel managers Linda and Chris, with nine members staying on the Friday night and with 12 members staying on the Saturday night, we all enjoy good meals through out weekend.

Saturday Ride

On the Saturday morning we were join by Bob who was staying in his motor caravan at site near by and Don Dalton from Leyburn for the main ride of the weekend. The party of 11 members headed out of Hawes through the village of Gayle for the climb up Sleddale along Beggarmans Road, Sharron was soon in the lead; follow by Peter has race each other for summit of the Fleet Moss Pass, has for the rest of us, and as we got nearer the summit we got off walk.

After we all got to the top of Fleet Moss, we continue along Ougthershaw Road and were reward by long freewheel down into Langstrothdale, at the pub in Hubberholme at the bottom of the dale we stop for morning coffee which Geoff Bell treat us all to has he was celebrating his birthday. After putting the world to right, we headed out of Hubberholme along Dubb’s lane to Buckden.

At Buckden, we turn on to our first track and up through Rakes Woods up on to Buckden Rake. We soon stop for lunch along side the track with fine views of Cray in the valley below. After lunch we soon join the B6160 for short while before turning on to Gilbert Lane and climbing up on to Stake Moss. We continue along Gilbert Lane and headed down into Raydale along High Lane. We rejoin the tarmac at Stake Road, where we regroup before heading down the valley to Bainbridge via Blean Lane for after noon tea.

When we got to Bainbridge we found that the café was close till end of March so we headed to the café at Askrigg which was open and afterwards we follow part of the Yorkshire Dales Cycle Way back to Hawes.

Saturday Evening

After the hostel evening meal Pat and Fred treat us slide show of their cycle tour of the Pyrenees.

Sunday Ride

With other members heading home on their bikes, this left six of us for the ride, so we headed out of Hawes on the A684, through Appersett and at Collier Holme Farm we join the road for Cotterdale for about 500yds before turning on to Lady Anne Clifford Way. Lady Anne was born at Skipton Castle in 1590 and used to travel this way to visit Pendragon and Appleby Castle. Where the farmer warm us that the track had be badly chew up by motor cyclists, so has the weather was turning for the worst Sharron decide to continue on along on the road and visit Dentdale area where she saw sunshine. So we continue up the steep fell-side to the lime kiln and the memorial seat to a trail rider at Cotters End, where with break in the cloud we had excellent view of Wensleydale

We then continue slowly on towards the ruins of High Dyke, with members stopping to clean mud from wheels and it had started to snow. At High Dyke we stop for some to eat and made decision to get off the track has quick possible has weather getting bad. So we follow the local footpaths down into the valley below and return to Hawes via B6259 and A684.
