9th February 2002 South Lakes Group's ride from Cartmel

9th February 2002 : A ride from Cartmel, report by Simeon Orme
I met Pat & Fred Lloyd at the carpark at the race course in Cartmel (50p for all day parking), after unloading the bikes from the cars, we headed off to the cafe at the Southern Lakeland Nurseries and Garden Centre in Cark.

After morning coffee we headed off up the B5278, with Pat in the lead, towards Haverthwaite. At Grid Reference: OS97 345837, we turn off on to Cumbria Cycleway, which we  follow to Greenodd.

After loo stop in Greenodd, we pass through Penny Bridge and cross over the River Crake. At the summit of  Hill Top we stop to cape up as the storm clounds had opened, we then pass through the villages of  Bouth and Causeway End.

Then started another climb up to another Hill Top, as we walk up we had find views of the Rusland  Pool in full flood, at the top we carry on towards Lakeside via Newby Bridge for lunch.

After lunch we retrace our steps back to Newby Bridge and cross over the  A590  to follow the top road to Seatle, after climbing out of Newby Bridge we stop to take the capes off, before the freewheel down to Seatle.

After passing through Field Broughton, the heavens open again as we got into Cartmel, so it was a mad dash to the cars.
