8th June 2002 Tilberthwaite Area, by Simeon Orme
After fighting my away through the Holiday traffic arriving to find Fred & Pat Lloyd waiting for me, after getting the bike out of the van, we headed down to the cafe at the Grizedale Vistor Centre.
After morning coffee it was still raining so we kept the capes on and headed through the forest cycle tracks over to Coniston Water and joining the tarmac near the lake edge and follow it up towards Coniston Village and passing Brantwood. We stop for lunch by lakeside at the top end of the lake, as it stop raining we took the capes off.
We then join the B5285 headed towards Hawkheads and shortly turn off at Boon Crag Farm and follow the track over to Low Yewdale, where we join the A593 which we follow to just before High Yewdale, where turn off and started the climb up to Hodge Close. At Hodge Close, we follow the track over to High Oxen Fell Farm and then cross over the A593 at Oxen Fell High Cross. To join the by road which go around Tarn Hows before dropping down to Knipe End.
From Knipe End we make our way up to High Cross and start of the forest cycle trail which we follow back to the cars at Hawhead Moor Car Park..
